Panerai

Panerai is one of the world's most distinctive and iconic luxury watch brands, known for its uncompromising design, technical precision and strong military heritage. With roots in Italy and a close connection to Swiss watchmaking, Panerai has created watches that combine functionality, robustness and exclusivity. When you invest in a pre-owned Panerai watch, you are not just getting a luxury watch, but a piece of living history with a distinctive and timeless expression.

The story behind Panerai

Officine Panerai was founded in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai in Florence, Italy. Originally operating as a watch shop, workshop and watchmaking school, Panerai quickly became known for its technical prowess and became the official supplier of precision instruments to the Italian navy, the Regia Marina .

At the beginning of the 20th century, Panerai began developing specialized watches and instruments for military use. The focus was on extreme legibility, durability and reliability – characteristics that still define Panerai's DNA today.

A crucial turning point came in the 1930s, when Panerai developed large diving watches for Italian divers. These watches were designed for use in extreme conditions and laid the foundation for Panerai's iconic design line.

In 1997, Panerai became part of the Richemont Group, marking the brand's international breakthrough and transition from military specialty equipment to a global luxury brand – without compromising its heritage.

Panerai's technical innovations and iconic characteristics

Over time, Panerai has introduced a number of unique solutions and design principles that make the brand easily recognizable:

Radiomir (1916) – Panerai developed a luminescent substance based on radium that ensured optimal readability in dark environments. This became the foundation of Panerai's famous dials.

The Radiomir watch (1936) – The first military diver's watch from Panerai with a large dial, wire lugs and cushion-shaped case.

Luminor (1950) – The introduction of the iconic crown protection system, which ensured better water resistance and became Panerai's most recognizable design feature.

Sandwich Dial – A multi-layered dial that provides maximum depth and readability, especially in low light conditions.

Large case diameters – Panerai was among the first luxury brands to make large watches popular, often in sizes from 44 mm and up.

In-house movements – In modern times, Panerai has developed its own mechanical movements in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, with a focus on power reserve, precision and robustness.

Invest in a used Panerai watch

A Panerai watch is more than a striking statement – it is an investment in design, history and craftsmanship. Many Panerai models have a stable resale value, and older references, limited editions and models with historical connections are particularly sought after by collectors.

By purchasing a used Panerai watch, you gain access to exclusive models at a more attractive price, while preserving the watch's character and authenticity.
