Omega

Omega is one of the most prestigious watch brands in the world, and for over 170 years it has delivered exceptional precision, innovation, and luxury. From pioneering sports and diving watches to playing a central role in space exploration and the Olympic Games, Omega has firmly established its place in the history of watchmaking. If you're considering investing in a pre-owned Omega watch, you're not just buying a timeless classic – you're acquiring a piece of groundbreaking technology.

The history of Omega

Omega was founded in 1848 by the young watchmaker Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. He produced precise pocket watches using parts from local suppliers and sold them throughout Europe. After Brandt's death in 1879, his sons Louis-Paul and César took over the business and moved production in 1880 to Biel/Bienne, where Omega is still headquartered today. In 1894, the brothers developed the groundbreaking “Omega 19-ligne” movement, which revolutionized the industry with its precision and production efficiency. This success led the company to adopt the name Omega Watch Co. in 1903.

Omega’s milestones

Omega has consistently been at the forefront of horology, introducing numerous technological breakthroughs:

1905: First official timekeeper at sporting events – Omega was selected as the official timekeeper for several major sports events, laying the foundation for the brand’s long-standing association with precision timing.

1932: Official Olympic timekeeper – Omega became the first watch brand to serve as the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, a role it still holds today.

1948: Launch of the Omega Seamaster – Originally designed for professional divers, the Seamaster quickly became one of the most iconic dive watches.

1957: Introduction of the Speedmaster – Initially developed for motorsport, the Speedmaster later gained fame as the “Moonwatch” due to its historic link to the Apollo missions.

1969: Omega Speedmaster on the moon – On July 21, 1969, the Omega Speedmaster became the first watch worn on the moon, by astronaut Buzz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 mission.

1999: Co-Axial escapement – Omega introduced the revolutionary Co-Axial movement, which reduced friction within the movement, increased precision, and lowered the need for maintenance.

2013: Master Chronometer certification – Omega developed a new certification process in collaboration with METAS, setting a new standard for accuracy and magnetic resistance.
